What are the limitations of the Relatives Visa?

The Relatives Visa provides an allowance to apply for Permanent Residency, but it does not permit the Relatives Visa holder to apply for business, work or study whilst in SA.

Are you allowed to apply for a Relatives Visa?

A foreigner who is a first or second level family member of a South African resident can apply to join the family member in SA. Candidates applying for the 1st time must do so whilst still in their country of residence.

Rules on how to qualify for a Relatives Visa

• Foreign applicant must provide a valid birth certificate.
• The Foreign candidate must have a direct or immediate family member who is a South African Citizen.
• Foreign applicant must provide proof of kinship to South African Citizen or Permanent Resident.
• The South African Citizen of the foreign applicant must show proof of income or assets of at least R8, 500 per month.
