Can you renew a Visa in South Africa?

The majority of visas can be extended, including the Tourist visa which can be extended for a longer period.

A holder of a South African Tourist visa can apply for one extension per visit and must be applied for 60 days before the visa expires. Extensions can be applied for up to an additional 90 days.

If you are exempt from from having to obtain a visa then you can enter SA and will automatically be allowed a stay of between 30 to 90 days. You will further be allowed one extension while in South Africa.

The processing times for a Visa Extension are on average between 30 days and 40 days.

What are the requirements to obtain an extension?

  1. Passport valid for no less than 30 days after expiry of the intended visit.
  2. Statement or documentation detailing the purpose and duration of the visit
  3. Proof of a valid return or onward ticket or sufficient financial means to purchase such ticket or to facilitate the return of the applicant.
  4. Proof of sufficient financial means.
